Debi Garrett, Co-founder/Director, Certified Vinyasa Flow Instructor
Debi's passion for fitness along with a background in dance inspired her love for the athletic, energetic style of Vinyasa Flow yoga. She has practiced various types of yoga since 1997 and was certified in 2008 after completing a Rolf Gates 200 hour Vinyasa teacher training program. Debi's goal for her students is to provide empowering workouts with a light hearted approach to this sometimes vigorous style of yoga. Her students will learn to focus inward, allowing for personal and spiritual growth, along with the physical benefits of this yoga practice. Debi keeps her classes interesting and inspiring with different themes and sequences each week as well as the use of play lists which include music that enhance the “vinyasa flow” experience. While these classes can be challenging, even the more novice, or newbie yogi will find them accessible, although for the Power Classes, some yoga experience is recommended. . By offering modifications and choices in the different poses, students at all levels of experience will have an opportunity to join. She is now working towards her Yoga Therapy Certification and would like to work one-on-one with those who may have a current injury, chronic disease, or illness, and educate them on how a routine of yoga practice, along with other therapies, can assist with healing. |

Chet Thomas, Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor
Chet has been teaching yoga in the Athens area for several years. He began his yoga practice many years ago for the physical benefits and found it crept into other aspects of his life, leading to the desire to begin teaching and sharing knowledge of the Iyengar approach to yoga. Chet was certified as an Iyengar Yoga Teacher in 2009, the culmination of several years of yoga practice, study, teaching and a rigorous examination process. He likes the Iyengar attention to detail and alignment, which helps to prevent injury; the equal emphasis on strength, flexibility, stamina and balance; and the adaptability to all ages and abilities. He encourages students to expand their physical limits while deepening understanding and awareness of the mind-body connection.
Chet has attended workshops and intensives with several senior level Iyengar instructors including Patricia Walden, Manuso Manous, Dean Lerner, and Laurie Blakeney. In 2010 he attended the Iyengar yoga teachers conference in Portland, which focused on therapeutics and was led by Geeta Iyengar. |

Melanie Kitchens O'Meara, Hatha Yoga Instructor
Melanie Kitchens, a recent doctoral graduate from the performance studies program at Louisiana State University, found an interest in yoga eight years ago when she began graduate school. Her training commenced at a Yoglates studio that specialized in Bikram yoga, but she soon found a hatha yoga practice that was more her speed. Her passion for yoga stems from an eagerness to re-harmonize the mind and body. She draws strength and hope from Augusto Boal who says, “in the bodies battle with the world the senses suffer. And we start to feel very little of what we touch, to listen to very little of what we hear, and to see very little of what we look at. We feel, listen, and see according to our specialty; the body adapts itself to the job it has to do. This adaptation is at once and the same time atrophy and hyperatrophy. In order for the body to be able to send out and receive all possible messages, it has to be re-harmonized.”
